Kota Bharu

Capital of Kelantan state, Malaysia, on the Kalentan River; population (2000 est) 233,700. The city lies in a fertile agricultural area near the border with Thailand, and produces rice and coconuts. The fishing industry is important, and there is some batik craftwork. The city is served by Peng Chapa airport.
