Kotka

Seaport in the southern Finnish province of Kymi on the Gulf of Finland; population (2001 est) 54,500. Situated on two islands at the mouth of the River Kymi, it is a centre of the pulp and timber trade, and the chief port for the exports and imports of eastern Finland.

Kotka was founded in 1878, and the Provincial Museum of Kymenlaakso covers the history, culture, and architecture of both the town and the surrounding Kymi Valley.
