Kotoku, Shusui (1871–1911)| Japanese journalist and political activist. A prolific writer, Kotoku moved from social democracy to pacifism to anarchist communism. In 1903, just before the Russo–Japanese War of 1904–05, he launched the anti-war Heimin Shinbun (Common People's Newspaper). First imprisoned in 1905, he was arrested again in 1910 in the infamous High Treason Incident and executed in 1911. |
