Koudougou

City in west-central Burkina Faso, capital of the province of Boulkiemdé, located 88 km/55 mi west of the capital, Ouagadougou; population (2005 est) 81,500. It is the third-largest city in the country. Zinc is mined locally as part of the Koudougou Zinc Project. There is a large textile factory and a railway line that links Ouagadougou with Abidjan, the capital of Côte d'Ivoire, on the Gulf of Guinea. Agricultural products include cotton and groundnuts.
