Koundouriotis, Paul (1855-1935)

Greek admiral and president 1924-29. He acted as regent on the death of King Alexander in 1920 and again on the departure of King George II in 1923, and was proclaimed president in 1924. He successfully commanded the navy in the Balkan Wars of 1912-13, and was minister of marine in 1915 and 1917-19.

In April 1924 he was proclaimed president; he resigned in March 1926 after General Pangalos assumed dictatorial powers, but a further military coup restored him to office on 25 August. Re-elected on 3 June 1929, he resigned on 9 December the same year.
