Kovacic, Ernst (1943- )

Austrian violinist. He studied at the Vienna Academy and has premiered works by Austrian composers such as Gruber, Helmut Eder and Kurt Schwerstik. British concertos, by Holloway, Osborne, Tippett (the triple concerto), and Thomas Wilson (the latter performed at the 1993 Proms) are also in his repertory. He has performed throughout Europe and the USA. Two important first performances in his career have been the premiere of Cerha's concerto for violin and cello (Salzburg 1979) and the first UK performance of the reconstruction Janáček's violin concerto (Liverpool 1989).
