Kowalski, Jochen (1954- )

German countertenor. He studied in Berlin and made debut at Halle in 1982, in Handel's Mucio Scevola. He worked at the Komische Oper, Berlin from 1983 and visited the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden in 1989, as Orpheus, returning to London as Orlofsky and Farnace in Mitridate 1990-91. Other roles include Ptolomeo in Giulio Cesare (which he performed at the Paris Opéra in 1987) and Ottone in L'Incoronazione di Poppea (which he performed at the Salzburg Festival in 1993).
