Kramatorsk

Industrial city in eastern Ukraine, in the Donets Basin, 90 km/56 mi north of Donetsk; population (1990) 199,000. Industries at this important road and rail junction include the manufacture of railway and coal-mining machinery, chemicals, steel, ceramics, and foodstuffs. The city grew from a small railway settlement established in the 1860s, expanding greatly at the end of the 19th century.
