Kramer, Amihud

Kramer, Amihud (1913-1981)

US food scientist of East European origin. He emigrated to the USA in 1934, where he studied at the University of Maryland, gaining his PhD in 1942. He worked at the National Canners Association, developing an objective method for measuring food quality (1941-44). He was then at the National Research Council, where he revised nutrient tables (USDA Handbook No 8), before returning to the University of Maryland to take up a teaching post (1948-80). He coauthored Quality Control for the Food Industry (1970, 1973). He died unexpectedly during a game of tennis.
