Kramer, Hilton

Kramer, Hilton (1928- )

US art critic. He was an art critic and editor for many periodicals, including Arts Magazine (1955-58) and the New York Times (1965-82). He was the founder-editor of New Criterion in 1982. Considered an important art journalist, he published many essays and books on 19th and 20th-century artists. Kramer was born in Gloucester, Massachusetts. He studied at Syracuse University, the New School of Social Research, Columbia University, Harvard University, and Indiana University.
