Krasner, Louis (1903-1995)

Russian-born US violinist. As a small child he was taken to the USA, where he studied at the New England Conservatory, graduating in 1923. He then studied in Europe, where his teachers included Flesch, Lucien Capet and Ševčik. After a period as leader of the Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra, he became professor at Syracuse University He commissioned Berg's violin concerto, giving its first performance, in Barcelona in 1936, and also gave the first performance of Schoenberg's violin concerto, in Philadelphia in 1940.
