Krause, Tom (1934– )

Finnish baritone. He made his debut in Berlin in 1958 as Escamillo and worked in Hamburg from 1962. In 1964 he created Jason in Křenek's Der goldene Bock and in 1968 the title role in Searle's Hamlet. For his Glyndebourne debut, in 1963, he sang the Count in Capriccio. He sang Almaviva at the Metropolitan Opera House, New York in 1967 and Don Giovanni at Salzburg the following year. Other roles include Malatesta, Germont, and Guglielmo. He returned to the Salzburg Festival in 1992, as Frère Bernard in Messiaen's St François d'Assise.
