Kreizberg, Jakov (1959- )

Russian-born conductor. Brother of Semyon Bychkov, he studied first in Leningrad then moved to the USA and studied under Leinsdorf, Ozawa and Bernstein in Tanglewood. He won the 1986 Stokowski Competition in New York, and was music director at the Krefeld Opera from 1988. In 1992 he conducted a revival of Goldschmidt's Der gewaltige Hahnrei at the Komische Oper, Berlin, where he was music director from 1994. He made his Glyndebourne debut in 1992 with Jenůfa and his English National Opera debut in 1994 with Der Rosenkavalier. He has conducted opera in Lyon, Michigan and Toronto, and since 1995 has worked with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.
