Krombholc, Jaroslav (1918-1983)

Czech conductor. He made his debut in 1940 at the Prague National Theatre and was chief conductor there 1968-75. He was the conductor of the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra 1973-78 and gave Czech opera widely in Europe, including the first British performance of Janáček's Excursions of Mr Brouček (Edinburgh, 1970). He returned to the UK in 1978 for Don Giovanni at the English National Opera.
