Cronus

In Greek mythology, the youngest of the Titans; ruler of the world under his father Uranus, the sky; and son of Gaia, mother of the Earth. He was eventually overthrown by his son Zeus.

After leading the revolt of the Titans against Uranus, Cronus reigned supreme. He married his sister, the Titaness Rhea, and had two sons, Poseidon and Pluto, and three daughters, Hera, Hestia, and Demeter; these he swallowed at birth believing that one of his children would destroy him. When Zeus was born, Rhea tricked her husband into swallowing a stone swaddled like a baby, and sent her son to safety. Cronus was forced to regurgitate his children on Zeus' return, and was eventually deposed and exiled to the Islands of the Blessed.

The Romans identified Cronus with their god of agriculture, Saturn, ruler of the period of the Golden Age.
