Kroonstad

Town in Free State, South Africa, 176 km/109 mi southwest of Johannesburg; population (district, 1991) 111,000. Kroonstad is the third-largest town in the province and a railway junction. Founded in 1855, the town is the centre of a maize-growing and dairy farming district. Industries include engineering, motor assembly, and clothing manufacturing.
