Krumpholz, Johann Baptist (1742-1790)

Bohemian harpist and composer. He grew up in Paris, France, travelled as a virtuoso, and was in the service of Prince Esterházy 1773-76, receiving tuition in composition from Haydn. After further travels he settled in Paris, and was responsible for some notable improvements to his instrument. When his wife deserted him for the composer Jan Dussek, he drowned himself in the River Seine.

8 concertos, 32 sonatas for harp; 2 symphonies for harp and small orchestra; harp duets.
