Kučan, Milan (1941- )

Slovene politician, president of Slovenia from 1990. He served as chair of the parliament 1978-86 and became chair of the communist party 1986-89. He became president of Slovenia in April 1990.

Born at Krizevci, Slovenia, he was educated at Ljubljana University. He joined the Federation of Communists of Slovenia in 1958, rising to the position of chair of the Central Committee in 1968.
