Kuhlmann, Kathleen (1950- )

US mezzo-soprano. She studied in Chicago and first sang at the Lyric Opera there in 1979. In 1980 she sang Meg Page at La Scala, Milan, and in 1982 Charlotte and Rosina in Cologne, and Ino and Juno in Semele at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. The following year she sang Cenerentola at Glyndebourne and in 1985 Penelope in the first performance of Henze's reconstruction of Monteverdi's Il ritorno di Ulisse at Salzburg. She returned to the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden in 1986 as Rosina, and in the 1991-92 season as Carmen and Bradamante in Alcina. In the same season she performed in Rossini's Ermione in San Francisco.
