Kullak, Theodor (1818-1882)

German pianist and composer. He was intended for a career in law and at some time studied medicine, but in 1842 decided definitely in favour of music and went to Vienna, Austria, to finish his piano studies with Carl Czerny. In 1846 he became court pianist to the king of Prussia and settled in Berlin, founding a conservatory with Julius Stern and Adolph Marx there in 1850, and one of his own in 1855.

Works

a piano concerto in C minor; piano trio; duets for piano and violin; a vast number of piano pieces, studies.
