Kondoz

City and capital of northern Kondoz province, Afghanistan, lying at a height of 397 m/1,302 ft above sea level; population (2001 est) 111,200. It lies in a region that, though semi-arid, is well-cultivated due to irrigation from the Kondoz River, producing crops of cotton, cereals, and fruit. Industries include food processing and the manufacture of cotton and silk textiles.
