Kuniyoshi, Yasuo (1893-1953)

Japanese-born US painter and graphic artist. His later work was marked by sinister fantasy, as seen in the well-known canvas, Juggler (1952). Kuniyoshi was born in Okayama, Japan, and emigrated to the USA in 1906. He studied initially at the Los Angeles School of Art and Design in California, and then, in 1916, at the Art Students League, New York, under Kenneth Hayes Miller.
