From Rotterdam, Schafhausen will also continue to direct the European Kunsthalle initiative in Cologne, a research project investigating the possibilities and problems of Kunsthalletype spaces in contemporary urban culture, created in response to the closing of the old Kunsthalle in Cologne and the general erosion of the city's art scene.
In 2001 popular painting from the Democratic Republic of the Congo was exhibited at the Museum of Ethnology in Vienna, studio photography from West Africa was displayed at the Kunsthalle Vienna, and a gallery in Innsbruck organized a special exhibition of works by Georges Adeagbo (Galerie im Palais Taxis).
