Kupfer, David J (1941- )

US psychiatrist. His primary contribution to the field of psychiatry was in the diagnosis and treatment of mood disorders, particularly sleep disorders and the biological causes of depression. He joined the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in 1973, becoming chairman of psychiatry in 1983. Kupfer was born in New York City.
