Kura

Major river in Transcaucasia, rising in Turkey, and flowing north through Georgia and Azerbaijan; length 1,515 km/941 mi. The Kura empties into the Caspian Sea south of Baku. Its main tributary is the Araks. Barrages for hydroelectric power and irrigation have been built at Tbilisi and at Mingäçevir, where a large reservoir has been created.
