Kurland, Bob (1924– )

US basketball player. Basketball's first dominating seven-foot center, his shot blocking ability led to a ban on goaltending in 1944. He was a three-time All-American at Oklahoma A&M (1944–46). A member of two gold medal Olympic teams (1948 and 1952), he was elected to basketball's Hall of Fame in 1961. Kurland was born in St Louis, Missouri.
