Kurtz, Efrem (1900–1995)

Russian-born US conductor. He led the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra from 1921 and the Stuttgart Philharmonic Orchestra 1924–33; he also conducted ballet. He worked with US orchestras from 1933, including the Kansas City Philharmonic Orchestra 1943–48 and the Houston Symphony Orchestra 1948–54. In 1966 he went to Russia as a guest conductor.
