Kusser , Johann Sigismund

Kusser (or Cousser), Johann Sigismund (1660–1727)

German conductor and composer. He was a pupil of Lully in Paris, where he lived 1674–82, one of the directors of the Hamburg Opera 1694–96, and Kapellmeister at Stuttgart 1700–04. He went to London in 1705, and later to Dublin, where he became director of music to the viceroy.

Vocal

operas Erindo (1694), Porus, Pyramus and Thisbe (1694), Scipio Africanus, Jason and Ariadne (1692); serenade for the king's birthday; ode on the death of Arabella Hunt.

Instrumental

suites (with overtures) for strings; collection of opera overtures and airs.
