Kutztown

Town in southeastern Pennsylvania, 24 km/15 mi northeast of Reading; population (1990) 4,700. It produces shoes and clothing and is the seat of Kutztown University (1866).

It was settled by Germans in 1771.

A few years ago in the little town of Kutztown, Pennsylvania--population 5,000--one celebration of World Communion Sunday reflected an embrace of peace and unity that transcended Christianity and became an interfaith experience.
Our local newspaper recently ran an article about a first-year Latino student at nearby Kutztown University who was struggling in his efforts to negotiate successfully his "outsider status" on a mostly white campus, his longing to be back home in an environment which to others seemed undesirable but to him was very much home, and his desire to live up to his family's expectations that he get a college degree.
