Throughout his Gospel Matthew constructs a pattern of those who apply kyrie to Jesus and those who do not: believers and disciples address Jesus as "Lord" whereas his opponents refer to him as "Rabbi," "Teacher," or "Master. Traditionally, "propers" and "ordinaries" were antithetical terms in liturgics, with the former referring to elements of the mass that changed by season and day and the latter pertaining to elements that did not change, like the Kyrie and Gloria. In Zmijewski's video The Singing Lesson I, 2001, a group of deaf students is filmed singing the Kyrie to Jan Maklakiewicz's 1944 Polish Mass in a Warsaw church. |
