Kyzyl-Kum

    0.04 sec.

Kyzyl-Kum

Desert straddling the territory of southern Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, and located between the Syr Darya and Amu Darya rivers; it covers an area of some 300,000 sq km/116,000 sq mi. In the centre and west of the desert, there are large artesian basins; the Kyzyl-Kum is being reclaimed for cultivation by irrigation and protective afforestation. In the south lies an important natural gasfield at Gazli.
