László, Magda (c. 1920– )

Hungarian soprano. She studied in Budapest and sang there during World War II as Elisabeth and Maria Boccanegra. She created the Mother in the first production of Dallapiccola's Il prigionero, in Florence in 1950. She sang Alceste at Glyndebourne in 1953, returning there in 1954 as Dorabella and in 1962 as Poppea, in the first performance of the Leppard version of Monteverdi's opera. Other roles include Marie, Senta, Norma, and Walton's Cressida, a role she created at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London in 1954.
