Léaud, Jean-Pierre (1944- )

French actor. He is known for his performances in New Wave films of the 1960s and 1970s. From the age of 15 he starred in a series of François Truffaut films as the character Antoine Doinel, most famously in Les Quatre cents coups/The 400 Blows (1959). He also starred in Jean-Luc Godard's Masculin-Feminin (1966) and in Bernardo Bertolucci's Last Tango in Paris (1972).

His Antoine Doinel films include L'Amour à vingt ans/Love at Twenty (1962), Baisers VoléStolen Kisses (1968), Bed and Board (1970), and Love on the Run/L'Amour en fuite (1979).

Later films include Irma Vep and Mon Homme/My Man (both 1996), Le Pornographe/The Pornographer (2001), and La Guerre àParis/The War in Paris (2002).
