Leoninus (lived c. 1163–1201)

French poet, theologian, and composer. First documented in 1179, he was active mainly at Notre-Dame, Paris, for which he is said to have composed the Magnus liber organi containing at least 42 settings of music for the Mass and Office in two voices. This formed the basis of the great Notre-Dame repertory later elaborated by Perotinus Magnus and others.
