LDAP

In computing, Internet standard that enables a client PC or workstation to look up an e-mail address on an LDAP server over a TCP/IP network. LDAP is a simplified version of the ‘heavyweight’ X.500 directory access protocol in the OSI (Open Systems Interconnection) standards suite.

Lotus Notes single sign-on is enabled via authentication redirection to Microsoft Active Directory or another LDAP directory, such as Sun ONE LDAP, IBM Tivoli Directory Server, OpenLDAP, and Novell eDirectory.
Five popular options include LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol), XML (eXtensible Markup Language), UDDI (Universal Description, Discovery and Integration), SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol), and WSDL (Web Services Definition Language).
