luteinizing hormoneHormone produced by the pituitary gland. In males, it stimulates the testes to produce androgens (male sex hormones). We conclude that the effects exerted by Plan B, when it is taken before the onset of the LH surge, may fully explain the pregnancies averted by emergency contraception. However, in most women the LH surge in urine begins after this and is not detectable until mid-morning. Three days after the LH surge, patients in the CEP Regimen arm began treatment with Prochieve(R) 8% (progesterone gel); daily use of Prochieve 8% continued for two weeks, followed by a pregnancy test. |
