La Baie

City in southern Québec, Canada, 10 km/6 mi southeast of Chicoutimi and 170 km/105 mi northeast of Québec City, on the Baie des Ha! Ha!, an inlet on the Saguenay River; population (1991) 21,000. Paper milling, bauxite importation and aluminium smelting, port installations, and a military base (at Bagotville) are central to the economy.

La Baie was formed in 1976 as an amalgamation of Bagotville, Port-Alfred, and the parishes of Grand-Baie and Bagotville, 1830s–40s lumbering communities.
