La Ceiba

Seaport and capital of Atlántida department, on the north coast of Honduras, situated at the foot of Mount Bonito on the narrow coastal plain between the Nombre de Dios mountains and the Caribbean Sea; population (1991) 77,100. It exports fruit, especially bananas and pineapples. Once Honduras' busiest port, La Ceiba now mainly serves the Bay Islands in the Gulf of Honduras.
