La Chaux-de-Fonds

Industrial commune in the canton of Neuchâtel, Switzerland; population (1995) 37,400. It is situated at an altitude of 990 m/3,248 ft in the Jura Mountains, 14 km/9 mi northwest of the town of Neuchâtel. It is a centre of the watch-making industry, and has a school for the engraving and enamelling of watch cases.

Ebel was founded in 1911 in La Chaux de Fonds, Switzerland.
Born Charles-Edouard Jeanneret- Gris, in the watch-making town of La Chaux de Fonds, the "godfather of modern architecture" was sent to a school of applied arts to learn the local industry, but instead became fascinated by the structure of buildings.
