La Tour d'Auvergne, Theophile Malo Corret de (1743–1800)

French soldier who served under Napoleon. He led a force of grenadiers in the Pyrenees and Alps, where he and men endured appalling conditions, but still fought with great distinction. He persistently refused promotion, so Napoleon gave him the title ‘Le Premier Grenadier de France’. He was killed at the battle of Oberhausen, in Bavaria.
