Labèque, Katia and Marielle

    0.04 sec.

Labèque, Katia (1950– ) and Marielle (1952– )

French duo-pianists, sisters. In a joint career that began in 1961, their repertoire has encompassed works by classical composers such as Bach, Mozart, and Brahms as well as modern pieces by Stravinsky, Olivier Messiaen, and Pierre Boulez. They also play ragtime.

Their recordings include a revival of George Gershwin's two-piano version of An American in Paris, Scott Joplin arrangements, and a collaboration with guitarist John McLaughlin. Their playing has Gallic fire and precision, and is deliberately fast.
