Labour Day

Legal national holiday in honour of workers. In Canada and the USA, Labor Day is celebrated on the first Monday in September. In many countries it coincides with May Day, the first day of May.

The idea of a worldwide holiday to highlight the achievements and aspirations of workers was first adopted at the 1889 international socialist congress in Paris, France, where the date fixed on was 1 May.
