Labrador City

Labrador City

Town in southwestern Labrador, Canada, near the Québec border, 435 km/270 mi west of Happy Valley–Goose Bay; population (2006) 7,700. The surrounding mining area is one of the world's largest producers of iron ore concentrates. Situated in a skiing area, the town is also a training centre for the Canadian cross-country team.

It was founded in the 1950s as a planned community for the Carol Lake mining region.
