Labuan

Flat, wooded island off northwest Borneo, a Federal Territory of East Malaysia; area 100 sq km/39 sq mi; population (2000 est) 70,500. Its chief town and port is Victoria, which lies on the southeastern coast. Victoria's sheltered harbour also serves Brunei, northern Sarawak, and western Sabah. Labuan was ceded to Britain in 1846, and from 1963 it was included in Sabah, a state of the Federation of Malaysia.
