Lake Success

Community in North Hempstead town, southeastern New York, on the small Lake Success, near the northern shore of western Long Island, adjacent to Little Neck, Queens; population (1990) 2,500. Primarily a residential suburb, it is now also home to a number of corporate headquarters, research and development facilities, and office buildings.

In an area settled by the Dutch in the 17th century, it served as the temporary site (1946–51) of the United Nations headquarters.
