Lakes, Gary (1950- )

US tenor. He studied at Seattle and made his debut with Dallas Opera in 1981, as Wagner's Froh. He sang Florestan in Mexico City in 1983 and appeared at the Metropolitan Opera House, New York, from 1986, as the High Priest in Idomeneo, Tannhäuser, Siegmund, Strauss's Emperor, and Aeneas in Les Troyens. During the 1991-92 season he appeared as Lohengrin at Buenos Aires and sang Das Lied von der Erde at the London Prom concerts. The following season he appeared at the Montpellier Festival, as Rienzi. His recordings include Die Walküre, under Levine, and Les Troyens conducted by Dutoit.
