Lamarque, Libertad

    0.06 sec.

Lamarque, Libertad (1908–2000)

Argentine actor and tango singer widely popular throughout Latin America. From 1947 she lived and worked in Mexico, where she appeared in more than 60 films and recorded more than 200 songs.

While filming La Cabalgata del Circo/The Circus Procession in 1945, she slapped fellow actor Eva Duarte. When Duarte later became Eva Peron, the Argentine first lady, she banned Lamarque from performing on radio or film, prompting Lamarque's move to Mexico.

Lamarque's best-known Argentine films include Besos Brujos/Bewitching Kisses (1937), Madreselva/ Honeysuckle (1938), and Cita en la Frontera/Encounter on the Border (1940). Her songs include ‘Nostalgias/Nostalgia’, ‘Cuando Vuelva a Tu Lado/When I Return to Your Side’, and ‘Inspiración/Inspiration’. Her career in Mexico was very successful, and included films such as Gran Casino (1947), Escuela de Música/Music School (1955), and Yo Pecador/I, Sinner (1959), as well as several soap operas.
