Lambaréné

Town in central Gabon, 150 km/90 mi southeast of Libreville; population (2007 est) 21,600. Lambarene is the administrative centre of the Haut-Ogooué region. Forestry and timber-production is important locally. A 140 million-tonne phosphate ore deposit was being mined in the late 1990s 40 km/25 mi from the town. Lambarene has a small airport.
