Lamesa

City and administrative headquarters of Dawson County, western Texas, 93 km/58 mi south of Lubbock; population (1990) 10,800. There are oil and lime deposits in this High Plains area. The city is a processing and shipping centre for cotton, grain, and wheat, with some light industries.

It was founded in 1903.
