Radio opera by Hans Werner Henze after the story by Franz Kafka; it was broadcast in Hamburg, Germany, on 29 November 1951, revised for Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau as a monodrama in 1964, and first performed in Berlin, Germany, on 12 October 1965. The radio opera was revised for the stage in 1964 and first performed in Frankfurt, Germany, on 30 November 1965. It tells the story of a doctor's macabre night-call to a village boy.
